Recognition:
  • Recognize members through "Celebrate Your Success" for activities/achievements outside of SHRM.
  • Celebrate Chapter Anniversaries.

  • Host a holiday social.

  • Feature board members in monthly newsletter and have the board member become the greeter for the month.

  • Post picture of members on the Web.

Meetings -- Ideas, Ice Breakers:

  • Question to tables at the beginning of the meeting, “What is the best story per table being shared at the meeting?”
  • Use True Colors: have all greens, blues, etc. sit together for discussion and networking.
  • Suspend meetings in the summer.
  • Encourage a relaxed atmosphere for summer meetings.
  • Get email addresses on sign-up meeting sign-up sheets.
  • Students Host & plan meeting.
  • Host a member of the day for your next meeting (recognize and tell about self).
  • Assign seating at meetings.

Activities

  • Use a meeting evaluation.

  • Compile best practices for each committee.

  • Create relationships with student chapters. Use students to compile chapter compensation and benefit surveys. Support students through meetings, scholarships, and HR games.

  • Chapter to provide certification materials for members.

  • Sponsor members to the State Leadership Conference.

  • Mentor new members.

  • Bring your boss.

  • Simplify legislative issues for others to understand.

  • Mentors assigned to each new member.

  • Create a new member packet.

  • Post Hot Topics in the newsletter.

  • Host a Unemployment judge to a meeting.

  • Encourage the Past President as the Marketing Chair.

  • Create study groups for Certification.
