Reports of Directors:
|
|
State Leadership Conference (Lori Glanz-Gambrino): the Leadership Conference will be in May in
Alexandria, MN at Arrowwood. The State Council will pay for the chapter president and
president-elect to attend. This is a great opportunity to get together and learn more about our
leadership roles. Additionally there is a waterpark at the resort and fun for the family. Many of
the attendees bring family.
(Student HR Games Sara Stark): The HR Games will be in Duluth on March 1st. UMD so far there are three Universities confirmed to attend, others are expected participate. Sara reported that she would be talking to Jennifer Mencl in Duluth on Wednesday to firm up volunteers and details.
Membership Joyce LeMay): We met and exceeded SHRM membership goals for 2007. We are on
track for 2008. Joyce has met with SHRM on membership and is working on initiatives and putting
together some statistics that she plans to present at the Leadership Conference. All chapters
should have a membership person on their Board. SHRM is asking this as chapter membership growth
for SHRM is one of the big goals for 2008.
Legislative (Larry Bourgerie): The big issue right now is FMLA. Chapters are encouraged
have their voice and use the HR Voice through SHRM. Larry will also work on putting together a
distribution to the chapter government affairs/legislation directors.
Certification (Patricia Stolee): the HRCI body of knowledge changed in 2007, this is
updated about every 5 years. Most notably was the strategic management increased to 29% for the
SPHR and compensation and benefits was redesigned to "total rewards" the other area of importance
is the pay if you pass for state council members. I you are in a state council position, or the
chapter president, or chapter HRCI director, you can take the PHR/SPHR/GPHR on a pay if you pass
basis. There is a $120 registration, and then once you pass, they bill you the balance, and mail
your certificate to you.
At-Large Speakers Bureau (Bruce Tyler): Not much so far. Bruce will send out another
communication asking chapters what presenters they.ve had that have been well received. The goal
is to have a speaker's bureau for chapters to access quality speaker. A concern was raised about
keeping the list current, Bruce is going to put some thought into. Addition discussion on getting
speakers that can provide
State Conference (Sheri Sweere): Sherri has the keynote speakers and is working on the
breakouts. There won.t be a Sunday keynote this year. Cliff recognized Sheri for doing a great
job putting together the conference titled "Strategy for a Stronger HR World". Plan to attend and
we will be asking chapters to help promote this year's state conference.
Report of State Director (Cliff Tanner): Report from the SHRM Regional meeting. There will
be changes to pre-approval of programs for HRCI credits. There is also discussions form SHRM on
supporting SHRM members, and possible Chapters, up t0 $5,000 for an HR intern.
