CALL TO ORDER

Minutes:

Minutes of the last meeting: Read by Patricia Stolee, Motion by Larry Vanden Plas to approve, second by Lori Glanz-Gambrino motion carried.

Treasurer's Report:

$71,288.28. Already have funds coming in for State Conference. Working on the State Council budget and conference budget.

Committee Report:

Insurance Report: Insurance was renewed. Insurance does not covers local chapters, directors, general liability. Chapters need to get their own general liability. Cliff mentioned that nametags were ordered.

Student HR Games 2/23-2/24: Sara Stark U Campus. Dinner Friday night. 8 teams participating. St. Cloud, Marshall, Duluth, Moorhead, UM and St. Thomas. Regional next step. No national HR Games. Participants start at 7:25, 25 volunteers for TCHRA.

Leadership Conference 5/20-5/21: Secured a speaker from SHRM on Governmental/legislative presentation. On-line registration. The Leadership Conference is a great time!! Push to chapters that this is a family oriented-event. Presidents and president-elects should attend. Starts at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 20th. Next State Council meeting will be held at the Leadership conference. Thanks to Lori for her hard work putting this conference.

State Conference 10/14-10/16: Sheri Sweere, Currently negotiating contracts and speakers. Entertainment for Monday night "Fun with Law" is in the works and Sheri is also working with the Ethics Guy. Sam is putting together a small business track. A separate communication will go out. Also working on catering. Sponsorship opportunities will also be available such as breakfast, pad folios, etc. Can register on-line through PayPal.

State Council Membership Director

Regional Council Meeting:

Cliff attended. HRCI problems. Why they require that lunch cannot be included? An outside organization determines the continuing ed credit. For HRCI Strategic credit the body of knowledge has changed, so check the HRCI website to view the strategic body of knowledge. SHRM wants more town halls, may team up with South Dakota, perhaps WI. Town hall meeting with Susan Messinger, open forum for HR and business executives. Wal-mart and SHRM-Wal-mart and Sam's Club have encouraged their HR people to join SHRM and local chapters. Local chapters should recruit from Wal-mart and Sam's.

NEW BUSINESS

Chapter News:

Lakes Area - Robin Loftis -- March Employment Law seminar.

Central SHRM - Linda Platz -- Programs: law changes, wellness, "Fish", planning a conference, summer social.

TCHRA - Deb Stachowski -- 24 volunteers, almost everyone on Board is volunteer, except one. HR Talk bi-monthly. Nov 80 attendees, January 100 attendees. Networking for HR and the community. Leadership Dev day for Board, PACE Pallet, Color chart, red blue, yellow, green. Once you ID your color, review your behavior traits. Pace.org

SMARA -- Planning schedule, one month open. Aaron Davis- Motivation. Looking at using more electronic communication, and looking at advertising. Added positions; Membership, Legislative, Website Coordinator and College Relations.

Duluth -- December meeting on the 6:00 news, January MN Works 75,000 vacancies over the next 10 years. MN OSHA in Feb and Worker's Comp in March. Golf outing in July and conference in the works.

OTHER BUSINESS

Tom Bader Webinars:

Communications will go out to Chapter Presidents in the next couple of weeks.

Discussion on BMS:

State of MN Bureau of Mediation Services. BMS does labor and grievance arbitration only for organizations with a union contract, and certain government agaencies.

Other Discussions:

Cliff brought notepads for chapters as door prizes. Leadership notepads. Discussion on setting up a Google Group e-mail for State Council meeting. Great tool for communicating.

NEXT COUNCIL MEETING:

The next meeting will be held on May 21, 2007, duriung the Leadership Conference.
