carry out our purpose. State Council members are local chapter presidents (or
their designees); state council officers and special interest committee
chairpersons.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE STATE COUNCIL?

together concerning the affairs, activities, needs and problems of SHRM in
Minnesota.
The State Council promotes:
- growth and support for profession
- certification for the HR professional
- diversity within our membership and profession
- professional development
- support of the SHRM Foundation
- grass roots response to legislation affecting our profession
- support for student (college) HR chapters

The State Council provides leadership and financial backing for the MN HR
Leadership Conference and the Annual Conference.
WHAT IS MY ROLE AS A STATE COUNCIL MEMBER?
If you are a Chapter President, your role is to act as a liaison between your
chapter members and the State Council. You support efforts to plan conferences,
support the SHRM Foundation, further growth and professional development of HR
professionals, provide input on legislation affecting the profession and
promote diversity. You are the voice at the State Council on behalf of your

If you are a State Council officer or committee chairperson, you have made a
commitment to assume responsibility for a function or project. All council
members participate in annual goal setting and the activities that are
necessary to assure that goals are met. Your attendance at council meetings is
important to further the exchange of ideas and information and provide
continuity to our statewide organization.
HOW OFTEN DOES THE STATE COUNCIL MEET?
The council meets four or five times a year. Two of the meetings are held in
conjunction with conferences (Leadership Conference and Annual Conference). A
meeting schedule is listed on the Website.

You can log onto the Web page at www.mn-shrm.org. The Web page contains timely
information for all HR professionals in Minnesota. State Council meeting dates
and meeting minutes are posted as well as local chapter information. Most local
chapters have their meetings schedules, chapter contacts, and events posted on
the site.

content and registration details) are also posted.
